About

Professor Dr Edward R. T. Tiekink is a Distinguished Professor and Head of the Research Centre for Crystalline Materials at Sunway University. Professor Tiekink received his formal academic qualifications at the University of Melbourne, culminating in a DSc in 2006, in recognition of his work in chemical crystallography and metal-based drugs.  His first academic appointment was at the University of Adelaide which he left in 2001, after 16 years of service, to take up a variety of appointments in a number of continents.  During this time, he pursued his scientific interests in chemical crystallography, producing many structures over this period.  His scientific passion is delineating the factors promoting crystallisation with a focus on weak, emerging interactions as identifiable points of contact between molecules.  Over and above his interests in chemical crystallography, Professor Tiekink oversees a mature and exciting research programme in developing metal-based drugs.

Research Interests

  1. Intermolecular interactions
  2. Molecular crystallography
  3. Crystal engineering
  4. Metal-based drugs
  5. Bioinorganic chemistry
